December 3, 2009 was the last time I would ever walk again. I started drinking at home, whiskey and cola, more whiskey than cola though. My buddy and I met at the local bar, where I continued drinking. We left around midnight to go to his apartment where we were going to play poker. We didn't make it. Luckily we were in two separate cars. I was coming around a corner too fast when my car started to skid. Figuring I would turn into the skid, I hit a tree doing about 50 mph.

“That night would be
the last time I would ever
walk correctly again.”

I wasn't wearing a seat belt, so my body lunged forward. My knee went into the center console, dislocating my leg and fracturing my hip. My head went through the windshield, cutting it open in multiple places. I was able to get out of my car though and quickly called my friend, telling him I had just totaled my car. He came back and picked me up and took me to the emergency room, where I was then airlifted to Houston. I spent three weeks in the critical care unit there before being released. That night would be the last time I would ever walk correctly again.
